Day 1–and we’re off…..

Well it’s actually day 3 now as it’s taken me this long to get fully unpacked and to cram it all into two drawers and four cupboard shelves plus under the bed and every nook and cranny I could find!  Also to find someone who knew what to do with adding the Internet to my three devices when I only have Wifi for one! Anyway, nearly there now, all I have to do every 5 mins is to determine which way is Forward and which is Aft and not end up at the wrong end of the ship!

Have lost Louise three times and so far cannot download the photos from my phone to the laptop, I might be organised by the time we get home! In the meantime keep your eyes peeled on Facebook and for those who don’t have it, get it!

This helped……

Day Twenty Three & Twenty Four

We weren’t looking forward to our trip across Cook Strait as the weather forecast for the previous few days had been rather foreboding but when we woke up that morning the sea looked wonderfully serene, which we thought was because we were in the harbour and had quite a way to go before we hit the open seas. And watching all those HUGE heavy laden trucks go on before us didn’t really have a calming effect on me either!!

Breakfast at Picton, french toast was so good but probably not a good idea with what we were expecting on the ferry!

A pretty little harbour and quite a nice small town, I was pleasantly surprised. After worrying all night about the trip it turned out to be absolutely fine, thank goodness the weather people were wrong again, can you tell I don’t like being on the water! In Wellington we picked up a friend of Louise’s and stayed the night before we drove straight from Wellington to Thames the next day, stopping at Taupo for a quick lunch as well as a few photo shots.
last-day-1
An old church in Levin, built in 1918 which is now used as the Kirk Wood Cafe.
last-day-2
St Patrick’s Community Church in Mangaweka.
last-day-3
Mt Ruapehu without much snow on it.
last-day-5
And lastly the church in the Waitetoko Marae.
And that is the last of Thelma & Louise’s adventures in this series, I know you will all be sitting on the edge of your seat waiting for the sequel, stay tuned, it will happen one day. Thelma first needs to sharpen her Scrabble skills!

Shantytown

Shantytown is a tourist attraction in the West Coast Region of the South Island of New Zealand. Located 10 km south of Greymouth, the town was constructed and opened in the early 1970s and consists of 30 re-created historic buildings making up a 19th-century gold-mining town. The town is surrounded by native forest, and is one of the region's most popular attractions.
